The second match of the three match ODI series between India and new Zealand in Hamilton was called off because of rain. Notably, India faced a heavy seven wicket defeat in the first match.

The second match was a shot for the visitors to get themselves back on winning track, but the Weather God had other plans. The series now stands 1-0 in favour of the hosts. The Indian team now don't have a chance to win the series as only match is remaining and the best they can do is draw levels.

The second match was a continuous start-stop affair and was reduced to a 29 overs a side match. However, the final rain interruption when India was 89 for 1 in 12.5 overs with Suryakumar Yadav (34*) and Shubman Gill (45*) at the, crease ensured that the game came to a halt.

Shastri heaps praises on how Shubman Gill carries himself

Shubman Gill has been India's opening choice in the series alongside stand-in skipper, Shikhar Dhawan. Gill looked in decent touch in both the matches as he scored 50 and 45* respectively.

Former Indian all-rounder and national team coach, Ravi Shastri spoke about Gill's attitude during a conversation with Prime Vide, the online broadcasters of the series.

Shastri said

“His emphasis today was in the timing of the ball. Sometimes when you are out of your depth, you want to get on with it by trying to hit the ball hard. He was in good control with good footwork. It is great to watch him play. There is something regal about him. He is a quality player and he's going to be around for a long time."

"He has good work ethics, he trains hard, he's hungry and he loves this game. He will continue to play because his grooming is good, he is always grounded," he added.
