Virat Kohli was the undisputed star of world cricket when he toured England in 2014. By that time, he already had Test tons in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and England was the only frontier left to conquer.

However, the tour of England was a disasterclass for Kohli, who struggled against James Anderson's moving delivery and could only score 134 runs in 10 innings, with an average of a meagre 13.40. He registered scores of 1, 8, 25, 0, 39, 28, 0, 7, 6 and 20 in 5 Tests, and the England bowlers made him their bunny.

How Kohli resurrected himself Vs ENG

He ressurected himself on the next SENA tour, when India travelled to Australia, in the same year. Despite scoring truckloads of runs across formats, Kohli's illustrious resume had one chink in his armour - Runs in England.

Fast forward 4 years later in 2018, India once again travelled to England, and this time Kohli was the Test captain. In the first Test at Edgbaston, he was welcomed by the crowd with a loud jeers. However, this was a different Kohli than 2014. He was mentally prepared for the challenge and grinded the harsh conditions to register a scintillating century.

There is another interesting backdrop to the 2018 tour. England travelled to India for a Test series in 2016, and Kohli stood out from the rest, being the leading run-scorer. Jimmy Anderson, the then premium bowler for England stated that Kohli could only score runs on flat surfaces, and will struggle when he comes to England.

As they say, never poke a sleeping lion, and that's exactly what Anderson did, and Kohli responded with two centuries in the 2018 series. The first one being at Edgbaston, and the second being at Nottingham, as the Indian skipper finished the series with 593 runs.
