Even at 43, MS Dhoni continues to defy time, reminding the cricketing world why he’s revered as one of the IPL’s greatest finishers. Leading Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, the veteran skipper recently rolled back the years with a match-winning 26* off 11 balls against Lucknow Super Giants, becoming the oldest Player of the Match in tournament history.

This performance reignited memories of MS Dhoni’s legendary composure under pressure. However, this trait of his is not for all seasons as captain Cool once lost his cool as he switched hotels mid-tournament after a clash over food arrangements, as former teammate Dwayne Smith recently recalled.

Smith Recalls MS Dhoni's Rage!

Dwayne Smith, in a viral interview, peeled back the curtain on two rare instances when the captain’s temper surfaced. The first involved Ravichandran Ashwin’s dropped catch during a match. “Dhoni moved him out of slip and placed him somewhere else. It was the first time I saw him angry,” Smith revealed.

The second was more personal as Dwayne recalled a hotel staff blocking a food delivery Dhoni had ordered.

“The other time was when the hotel staff stopped food, ordered by Dhoni, from being delivered to the hotel for him. He got angry and he moved from the hotel to another hotel. I can't remember the hotel name, or even if I do, I won’t mention it. He moved to the other hotel right away,” Smith added, emphasizing Dhoni’s zero tolerance for unprofessionalism.

While Dhoni’s on-field heroics, like his LSG cameo, often dominate headlines, these throwback moments underscore the standards he upheld. His fiery responses, though rare, weren’t about ego, they were about accountability. As Dwayne Smith noted, “If you get him angry, you must have done something really bad.”

A decade later, the philosophy remains unchanged - Dhoni’s silence still speaks louder than words, but when it breaks, it reshapes expectations on the field.

For now, Dhoni Takes Command on the field for Chennai Super Kings in the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad and will aim to bounce back on track after some worrisome outings in the first leg of the IPL.
