Dismissals by Brett Lee [Source: @BBL, @piemont_89/X]
Brett Lee's induction into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame on December 28, 2025, marked the recognition of an unadulterated velocity. For over a decade, Lee was more than a fast bowler, probably, a blur of blond hair and a whirring, a mechanically perfect action that turned the cricket ball into a thunderbolt.
As the cricketing world celebrates Lee’s ultimate accolade, we look back at the moments where that genius was most devastatingly displayed. Here are the 5 top wickets that define Brett Lee, the forever pace immortal.
5) Brett Lee rips apart Hamish Marshall’s wicket (2005)
On December 3, 2005, Brett Lee delivered an unplayable ball to Hamish Marshall, which left him stunned. A ‘picture-perfect’ good length delivery at 140 kph that swung in at a pace that left the Kiwi veteran awestruck. As the right-handed batter attempted a drive without moving his feet, he was left stunned as the fiery delivery uprooted the off stump.
Marshall, in disbelief, walked back as Lee celebrated the wicket with fiery air punches. The match was spicy itself with Australia winning the 50-over affair as New Zealand were wrapped up inside 105 runs as they chased 252 in Auckland.
4) Brett Lee bags Sam Whitman in BBL's iconic over (2015)
In his final professional appearance in cricket, Brett Lee produced a dramatic finish in the inaugural BBL final on January 28, 2015. Bowling the last over for Sydney Sixers with Perth Scorchers needing eight runs, Lee struck twice in successive deliveries, dismissing Nathan Coulter-Nile and then clean bowling Sam Whiteman.
The mechanical-arm god bowled a beauty as he came in over the wickets for the southpaw and pitched a good length delivery. The ball breathed fire as it swung inside, and in an attempt to swing it over the covers, Whitman missed it as it rattled the stumps.
3) Brett Lee’s lethal yorker to Matt Prior (2009)
During the Australia tour of England and Scotland, Brett Lee delivered a peach that might be a textbook example of a perfect yorker even today. Lee struck at 143.7 kph at right-handed England batter Matt Prior with an in-swinging yorker that left the batter bamboozled.
Completely beaten by the pace and low pinpoint yorker, Prior had to leave the crease on 29 as he attempted to salvage England’s ship, which was struggling at 2/96.
2) Brett Lee spits fire with a picture-perfect yorker (2003)
During the 2003 World Cup, against New Zealand, Brett Lee was all but lazy with his bowling. The then Aussie pace sensation delivered a searing 150 kph to Andre Adams, who was sent back to the pavilion for a duck while chasing Australia’s 209 runs.
Lee wreaked havoc in that match as he breathed fire through New Zealand’s batting order, also dismissing names like Stephen Fleming and Brendon McCullum as his team won the match by 96 runs.
1) Brett Lee packs Sachin Tendulkar with a bouncer (2008)
Brett Lee have picked Sachin Tendulkar 14 times in international cricket, and as the legend himself says, his best dismissal in Test cricket of his life was Tendulkar’s.
On January 24, 2008, Brett Lee bowled a searing bouncer to Sachin Tendulkar, which, in an attempt to pull away, got the top edge. Tendulkar, sitting at a pretty 153 during India’s first innings of the 4th Test at Adelaide, had to walk back as Brad Hogg at the deep backward square palmed the ball.
