The two-time T20 World Cup champions West Indies were knocked out of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 after suffering defeats against Scotland and Ireland. The Nicholas Pooran-captained side notched up their only win in the first round against Zimbabwe, which could not save them from elimination.

Across all matches, the Windies looked disjointed, with batters unable to adjust to the various match situations. Even in the last T20 World Cup in 2021, West Indies managed just one win from five games in the Super 12 stage, which sounded alarm bells for Cricket West Indies (CWI).

Former captain and T20 legend Kieron Pollard expressed his surprise over the team's poor outing in Australia.

Speaking with i95.5fm, Pollard,  who retired in April this year, felt this was more of a problem of the system than players.

"A bit surprised, to be honest that (West Indies) weren't able to get over the line against the other teams.

But again, that speaks volumes of where our cricket as is at the moment. I feel it. I feel it for the guys because they are the ones that are going to get the bashing. And it's not all their fault."

The 35-year-old also showcased his sympathy to a young and an inexperienced side.

"We have a young captain, we have young players, guys who would have played only a handful of (matches in) T20 cricket and now they are in the World Cup. And when I look back at it, I sit back and I have a smile on my face."
