The Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 gets underway as Asian giants Afghanistan take on 50-overs champions England at Perth tomorrow (October 22).

England is coming off a hotly-contested three-match series win against Australia and will hope to carry their form into the WC as well. Several former players and cricket pundits have high hopes and expect England to win the tournament on November 13.

Former England international Kevin Pietersen, too, backs the Three Lions led by Jos Buttler as firm favourites to lift their second T20 WC title.

The 42-year-old talking to the Mirror believes that England's preparation have been good, but once the main draw begins, it is all about performance on that day.

No stranger to T20 cricket, Pietersen was named player of the tournament during England's 2010 title triumph under Paul Collingwood.

"This England white-ball team is absolutely spectacular. They really are. They’re fabulous to watch, they’ve got all bases covered, and I think they go in as favourites.

It was a great victory in Pakistan, a huge victory. And they’ve been very confident in the way they’ve played the warm-up games in Australia. It’s been the perfect build-up."

Skipper Buttler, however, maintained that England are far from being the favourites to lift the coveted T2O trophy.
