Australia will begin their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign against Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand on Saturday.

The hosts will be hoping to begin the tournament on a positive note win a victory.

Australia have a talented squad at their disposal and they will certainly be one of the favourites to win the competition this year.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag reckons that Australia have a balanced side and the hosts will have a good World Cup. The cricketing legend backed the Aussies to make it to the finals of the showpiece event along with India.

Previously the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Tom Moody have backed India and Australia to reach the finals of the World Cup as well.

Australian players are well versed with the home conditions and that is certainly an added advantage. Furthermore, a number of teams have had crucial injury blows coming into the tournament. For example, India will be without Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, while England are without star T20I bowler Reece Topley.

Predicting his finalists, Sehwag said (as quoted by Hindustan Times):

“The hosts are Australia and defeating them Down Under is very difficult. The other would be the Indian team who are balanced and have experience of playing in Australia.”
