West Indies bowed out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in the first round itself, after suffering defeats at the hands of Ireland and Scotland, respectively.

Opener Evin Lewis, who made a surprise return to the competition, has opened up about his feelings over the Windies' ouster.

Lewis will be seen playing for the Sharjah Warriors in the inaugural edition of the UAE-based International League T20, commencing on January 13.

The 31-year-old had a horrible time Down Under, scoring just 41 runs from three matches.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Lewis revealed how his family helped the left-handed opener overcome 'hurt'.

“Yeah, it (the T20 World Cup) was a tough pill to swallow, to be honest. I had the help of my family, which was the most important thing. When I came home, I tried not to dwell on it too much. These things can actually hurt you a lot if you go too deep into it.

So I had to give that responsibility to my family and the support that they’ve been giving me since I reached home … . I’m very thankful for that. I think I’m in a good space now – both fitness-wise and mentally. I’m happy with the way I’m going about my cricket at the moment.”

Lewis expressed his excitement over playing alongside Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who like the West Indian batter is also an explosive opener.

The Warriors, captained by Moeen Ali, will play their first match against MI Emirates on January 14 in Sharjah.
