New Zealand women showed their ruthlessness and demolished the Sri Lankan women by a whopping 102 runs to keep their Women's T20 World Cup semi-final hopes alive.

Batting first, the White Ferns posted a healthy 162 for 3 on the board. The experienced Suzie Bates (56), and Amelia Kerr (66) were the stars of the show, as the New Zealand side brushed aside their Asian opponent with utmost ease.

Chasing a tricky total, Sri Lanka were never really in the hunt and could only manage to score a mere 60 for the loss of 9 wickets.

After the game, New Zealand skipper, Sophie Devine was elated with her side's performances, and reckons there is still a glimmer of hope to reach the semis.

"I wish this had been our first game, but it wasn't meant to be. We were humiliated earlier in the tournament, but today's win has given us a small chance. I am very proud of the group. It was a fantastic start for us. We talked about it, and we knew 160 would be difficult on this wicket.

It's incredible. Sri Lanka upset South Africa, but Australia continues to win, which is tedious. However, it was a tough competition. The help has been fantastic. It gives us such a great vibe and atmosphere," Devine said at the post-match presentation.

The White Ferns will now hope that South Africa women lose to Bangladesh on Tuesday. Only then can they qualify for the semi-finals. With this loss, Sri Lanka have crashed out of the T20 World Cup.
