Steve Smith hopeful of playing in the upcoming World Cup at home

Former Australian captain Steve Smith was not named in the playing 11 for the first T20I against the West Indies, but that has not dented his hopes of playing in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The batsman, once touted as one of the best across formats, feels that he can perform well on Australian wickets, where the ICC event is being held.

"Just having that more attacking mindset rather than, when I was playing that kind of (Mr Fix-It) role, I was probably in a more defensive frame of mind and almost trying to bat through without taking the game on as much."

"But just having the license to go out and just play the way I want to play, and the situation that's in front of me, I think that's the way I play best. For me, I'm not as strong and powerful as some of the other guys,”

Australia registered a three-wicket win over West Indies in the first T20I, in which the team management preferred Cameron Green and Tim David ahead of Smith.

With a convincing win in the opening game, the playing XI for the second game looks unlikely to be changed, unless they are considering Smith in the scheme of things for the World Cup’s playing XI. The second T20I between Australia and the visitors will be played at Brisbane on October 7.
