Sourav Ganguly has decided to contest the Presidential elections of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), after discontinuation of his tenure as a BCCI President.

Last month, the Supreme court accepted BCCI’s recommendation of amendments in the cooling-off period, which allowed Ganguly and Jay Shah to extend their stint for another three years. However, the former Indian captain didn’t have enough backing from the BCCI board members, which has confirmed his departure.

Under Ganguly’s leadership since 2019, BCCI successfully conducted IPL in the United Arab Emirates during COVID-19 and improved the structure of domestic cricket. Furthermore, the much-awaited Women’s IPL is also slated to start in 2023.

After realizing his outgoing, the 50-year-old reckoned that he was a ‘cricketer’s administrator’ and added that it’s the faith in your ability which keeps you going as an individual.

In the latest media interaction, Ganguly has revealed that he has planned to file nomination papers to contest in the CAB polls. He has also informed the cricket fraternity of being permitted to hold a post for another four years in the state unit, as permitted by the apex court.

"Yes, I will be contesting the CAB polls. I plan to file my nomination on October 22. I have been in CAB for five years and as per Lodha Rules, I can continue for another four years," Ganguly told PTI.

Ahead of this development, the speculations gave rise to Ganguly's elder brother Snehasish contesting to replace Avishek Dalmiya for the top post. Earlier, Ganguly held the CAB President post for four years, between 2015 to 2019.

Meanwhile, BCCI’s Annual General Meeting on October 18 will witness the elections taking place for the respective posts. The former Indian cricketer Roger Binny is likely to be the next President, while Jay Shah will continue as the secretary.
