Legendary auctioneer Richard Madley went on a nostalgic memory lane on Sunday, May 28th, as he recalled the first-ever IPL auction where he sold champion wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni to the Chennai Super Kings.

Madley took to his official Twitter account, where he termed selling Dhoni to CSK as the highlight of his career besides also posting a picture of an autograph from the legend himself for his son.

Madley wrote:

“Selling #Dhoni in the first #IPL auction was a career highlight & meeting him was very special. He signed this for my son @harrymadley6 Good luck today #CSK #WhistlePodu #Yellove.”

For the uninitiated, Dhoni was the most expensive player to be sold in the inaugural IPL auction, with the Chennai Super Kings shelling out INR 6 Crores for the services of the then Indian captain.

It proved to be the biggest masterstroke in the history of the IPL as over the course of the next 15 years, Dhoni led the Super Kings to title glory 4 times besides making them the most consistent team in the history of the league.

Interestingly, Madley’s tweet came on a day when MSD will be turning up for CSK for a record 250th time, and in a bid to claim the IPL title for the fifth time. CSK will lock horns with defending champions Gujarat Titans in the summit clash in front of a packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and his fans will hope that their beloved Thala will once again finish it off in style.
