In an unfortunate incident, South Africa's Keshav Maharaj was stretched off the ground as he hurt his left heel while celebrating a wicket in the ongoing Test against the West Indies at the Wanderers.

As Maharaj claimed his second scalp in the form of Kyle Mayers off a successful lbw review, he got visibly enchanted in the celebration but slipped on his left ankle, which resulted in an Achilles injury.

While Maharaj received medical support on the field, it was not enough to get him going. He had to be taken off the ground on a cart.

The latest update is that the left-arm spinner has undergone an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury.

Although the Proteas did not need Maharaj's services further in the match as the Windies were bundled out for 106 runs, his availability for the nearing ODI series is yet to be confirmed.

Moreover, the left ankle tendon injury also forces dark clouds over his county stint with Middlesex will run from April till July.
