Even before their first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been hit with injury woes to key players. One of them is last season's star performer, Rajat Patidar.

The franchise is hoping that Rajat Patidar gets to feature in some of their games this season and are keeping their fingers crossed. The Madhya Pradesh batter suffered from a heel injury and is currently in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for rehabilitation process.

RCB head coach, Sanjay Bangar gave an insight into Patidar's health ahead of their tournament opener against Mumbai Indians.

"As far as Rajat goes, at this point he's out of our control, at the NCA he's sort of undergoing treatment in that particular academy and we are still waiting for the clarifications from him.

And once we get the clarifications, our media team will certainly keep you in the loop and it might also be the case the NCA will take a very sporting call on what he does or what his future holds," Bangar said.

Last season, Patidar was not in the original RCB squad, but came in late as a replacement for the injured  Luvnith Sisodia. He starred for the franchise in the Eliminator match against RCB, scoring a stunning century to take them through to the Qualifier 2.

RCB have other injury concerns as well. Josh Hazlewood suffered from Achilles problems and will miss the first half of the season. Barring him, Glenn Maxwell is still not 100% fit from his broken leg, but will take part in the opening contest.
