The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is currently in full swing, but the buzz on social media at the moment is about Ajinkya Rahane's return to the Indian Test team for the WTC finals. His selection has caused quite a stir on social media.

Rahane's last Test appearance came for India in January 2022, during the Test series in South Africa, and he was dropped from the team afterwards. Furthermore, he lost his central contract with the BCCI just a month ago.

Rahane’s performances for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing tournament have been nothing short of extraordinary, especially considering that he was bought for the base price of INR 50 lakhs.

Ajinkya Rahane's breathtaking form in the ongoing tournament, which saw him scoring 209 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 199.05, has been credited as one of the reasons for his inclusion in the WTC final squad.

Since his last appearance for India in the Cape Town Test match in January 2022, Rahane had been out of the team and played no further international matches.

During this time, he turned his focus to domestic cricket and played for the Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy and the Ranji Trophy tournament.

Social media has been abuzz with opinions on Rahane’s selection for the WTC final, with some being in favour of the decision and others strongly opposed. Notably, former Indian team head coach Ravi Shastri has also weighed in on the matter with his own verdict.

"Best Indian team selected. Well done selectors and team management #WTCFinal2023 #TeamIndia," Shastri tweeted.

The upcoming WTC final against Australia at The Oval presents a huge challenge for the Indian team, especially with both Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer out of the squad.

It remains to be seen whether Ajinkya Rahane will be able to secure a spot in the playing 11, particularly given his past struggles at this venue.
