Leading run-getter in the ongoing edition of Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23 Matthew Short, received praise from his Adelaide Strikers teammate Rashid Khan after an impressive performance in their close loss against the Perth Scorchers last evening. Short-picked up wickets of Faf du Plessis and Aaron Hardie to register figures of 2 for 11.

As an opener, Short's record has been phenomenal in the past two seasons, scoring 493 runs in BBL 11 and currently sits on 177 runs. However, the Strikers have also utilised Short as an opening bowler, on the lines of how Kolkata Knight Riders use Sunil Narine up front.

In the post-match media interaction, Khan termed Short as an all-rounder and wished his international debut soon.

"I don't know if he calls himself or not, but we should call him an allrounder. I think he's a proper off-spinner. He has all the skills. It used to be me coming in the Power Play bowling, and now he's come in and taking that responsibility. It makes my job a little bit easier in the middle to come and keep things tidy.

His consistency with the bat, with the ball, and he's an excellent fielder - I would be so happy for him to see him play for Australia. I hope in the future he gets that opportunity."

Overall, in 58 BBL matches, the 27-year-old has scored 1,128 runs and claimed 17 wickets.

The Strikers take on the Melbourne Stars on Saturday and will hope to maintain their position as table toppers.
