Australia batter Peter Handscomb chalked off a major milestone, marking 1000 Test runs in the 32nd innings of his career, becoming the 109th Aussie to achieve the feat.

Ahead of the Delhi Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), Handscomb stood on 971 runs as he eyed a chiliad.

Scoring his 1000th Test run off India's Ravindra Jadeja in the 48th over of Australia's first innings, the 31-year-old now ranks in the company of 108 Australian batters, excluding him.

While Handscomb's place was a no certainty in the series versus India, an injury to Cameron Green turned out to be a blessing for the former. He scored 31 and six runs in the two innings of the last match.

The Victoria-born is amongst Australia's better-looking batters in the BGT 2023 as he is still going strong in the second Test, having scored 36 runs as of now.

Meanwhile, the visitors are in a sort of pickle, lying at 199-6 at tea.
