OC Exclusive: Ian Bishop Supports KL Rahul In the Ongoing Social Media War

Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop supported India's KL Rahul as a sea of criticism surrounds the latter.

As Rahul's performance is going downhill with every match, most of the fans and pundits have been demanding for Shubman Gill's inclusion in the third Test of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy.

However, the team management seems to be adamant about their decision of backing the 'talented' batter as Gill may have to wait for his chance.

Ex-India players Aakash Chopra and Venkatesh Prasad did not shy from passing their opinions on Rahul as their back-and-forth counter-blast on Twitter became a trending topic.

While Prasad presented Rahul's Test record and wanted him to get dropped, Chopra blamed him of having an agenda.

Speaking to OneCricket's correspondent Vimal Kumar, Bishop shirked away from commenting on the Twitter debate, labelling it as 'personal'. He also endorsed his support in favour of Rahul as he thinks that the 30-year-old will deliver the goods.

Here's what Bishop said:

"I think it's a part and parcel of every cricketer's life. I have been through it as a player. Some think he (KL Rahul) should be in and some think he should be out. It's more magnified than it would be in other countries because of the population size," Bishop said while supporting the Indian batter.

"From the outside, you think it is good to have a debate but at the end of the day, the guy is a human being. To see his name being trolled through social media and the press is not an easy thing but you buy it as a sports sweater. It will play out. He is a talented cricketer. He will find his way in different formats but will take some time.

"I do not want to get into that personal debate. The guys are going personally at each other," he concluded.

India and Australia will lock horns in the third Test of the fourth-match series at Indore on March 1.
