Tom Latham continued to rewrite the record books for New Zealand as he reached yet another batting milestone for himself. Latham, on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test at Christchurch against Sri Lanka, completed 5000 Test runs as an opener for the Black Caps, a feat only former player John Wright has achieved.
Of Wright's 5334 red-ball runs, 5,260 have come while opening. Meanwhile, Latham, who currently sits on 5077* Test runs, has scored 5,013 runs while batting at the top.

Overall, the 30-year-old from 73 Tests slammed 5,077 runs at an average of 41.96 with 13 centuries, two double-centuries, and 26 fifties since 2014.
Interestingly, Latham is the seventh-highest run-getter in Tests for New Zealand and is nearing Wright's tally of 5,334 runs. Ross Taylor leads the list with 7,787 runs.
As of writing, New Zealand find themselves in a spot of bother in the final session of play on Day 3.
Latham, along with Daryl Mitchell, is holding the fort for the Kiwis with his side reeling at 79 for 3, still trailing Sri Lanka by 276 runs.
