Ahead of the first Test against England, hosts New Zealand received news about pacer Matt Henry's unavailability for the opening match.

Henry becomes the second pacer after Kyle Jamieson to miss the Mount Maunganui encounter after the latter was ruled out of the series due to the reoccurrence of his back injury.

Henry will miss the first Test, which begins on Thursday, as he will be with his family for the birth of his first child.

Jacob Duffy and Scott Kuggeleijin have been added to the Black Caps' squad and could be handed their debut Test cap at Bay Oval.

Coach Gary Stead said that NZC will decide on further course of action for Jamieson soon.

Here's what Stead said

"While Kyle’s not feeling any pain, the evidence is pretty clear he has a stress-fracture and so he’ll return to Christchurch today and have a CT scan on Friday before we decide on the next steps."

Henry will return to the squad for the second and final Test of the series commencing on February 24 in Wellington.

With no Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner will shoulder most responsibilities in the pace bowling department.
