One of Australia's key architects in their ICC T20 World Cup 2021 winning campaign Matthew Wade is currently playing in the Big Bash League (BBL) for Hobart Hurricanes. During a rain interval in last evening's match between Hobart and the Sydney Sixers, the Australian wicket-keeper spoke about his future with the national T20 side.

The 35-year-old has played 75 T20Is and recently amassed 1,000 runs while captaining Australia in the last Super 12 encounter against Afghanistan. Wade speaking to Fox Cricket, said that he will continue to play league cricket and keep dishing out performances.

Wade faces stiff competition from the likes of Alex Carey and Josh Inglis.

"I wouldn’t say I don’t expect to play for Australia.I’ll speak to Bails (chief of selectors George Bailey) and Ronnie (coach Andrew McDonald) over the next five or six months before we play the next T20 series.

I’m ready to go if they want to pick me, but if they want to in another direction for the next little period of time before the World Cup so they can look at Inglis, then I understand that as well. Nothing is set in stone – I’d love to keep playing – but if it doesn’t, then that’s fine.”

After the BBL 2022-23, Wade will next be seen in action playing for the Karachi Kings club in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 before participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 with title-holder Gujarat Titans
