"No One From Indian Team Bats Like Me", Says Virender Sehwag

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag was a trailblazer in Test cricket with his unique and fearless attitude. He played some of the most incredible innings of his time, including two triple tons and numerous double centuries.
Even nine years after his retirement, his laurels are still sung, and his approach is highly regarded. Despite the frequency with which modern-day youngsters are compared to Sehwag, he dismisses these comparisons, saying that no one from the current Indian set-up bats like him.
However, during a recent interaction on News 18, the former batter reckoned that the two players who have come close to batting like him are Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw.
"I don't think so there is any player in the Indian team who bats like me. The two players who came to my mind who have come close to it are Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant," Sehwag said during News18 India Chaupal.
However, the legend says that while Pant comes close to his Test style of batting, he is content with scoring 90-100 runs, whereas he aimed to score daddy hundreds.
"I think Rishabh Pant is a little bit close to what I used to bat like in Test cricket but he is satisfied with 90-100 but I used to score 200, 250 and 300 and then be content", added Sehwag.
The legendary batter's mindset of not changing his approach during different phases of his innings made him unique. He always batted with an element of risk involved, but it often paid off.

Sehwag revealed that his approach was inspired by his experience of playing tennis ball cricket, which focuses on hitting more runs through boundaries. The 44-year-old added that he incorporated this mindset into his international cricket career.
"If I am on 90 and to reach 100 if I take 10 balls then the opposition has 10 balls to get me out, which is why I used to go for boundaries and gave them only two balls to stop me reaching the triple figure-mark," the erstwhile cricketer concluded.
