Nathan Sowter inks one-year deal with Durham

Australian-born Nathan Sowter has moved from Middlesex Cricket County Club (MCCC) to Durham Cricket County Club (DCCC) on a one-year deal. The leg-spinner was released from Middlesex after his contract expired, having spent seven long years with the club since 2017.

Last year, Sowter played for Durham on loan in the T20 Blast and picked up eight wickets from seven matches. Sowter was Middlesex's third-highest wicket-taker in the T20s, with 71 scalps at an average of 20.33.

The 30-year-old has played for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred 2021 and 2022.  Overall, Sowter has played 13 First-Class, 19 List-A, and 86 T20s, picking up 137 combined.

Sowter in a statement, expressed his excitement for joining Durham again.

Here's what Sowter said

 "I am really excited for this opportunity to come back to Durham after a short loan spell last season. I am looking forward to making an impact and contributing to success on the pitch with Durham."

Marcus North, director of cricket Durham, welcomed Sowter back into the system.

"Nathan impressed during his loan spell in the summer and will bring a wealth of experience and quality to complement our current spin options in the shorter format."

The spinner will play as a non-overseas player as he holds an British passport as well.
