Jemimah Rodrigues has become a household name in India after her heroics in the Women’s World Cup semi-final against Australia. Following Rodrigues’ magnificent unbeaten 127 that helped India book a spot in the final against South Africa, an old post by former England cricketer Nasser Hussain predicting her rise has resurfaced online.

Nasser Hussain had shared a photo with a young Jemimah Rodrigues seven years ago, captioned, “Remember the name Jemimah Rodrigues. Did some throwdowns with her today. She is going to be a star for India.”
The post came just weeks after Jemimah Rodrigues made her India debut in ODIs and T20Is as a teenager. In the image, both were seen smiling side by side.

A snapshot that now feels prophetic for the Indian star, who has since become a key part of India’s batting lineup with her explosive performances. Her unbeaten 127 was yet another testament to her temperament and talent in a high-pressure chase.
How Rodrigues proved the prophecy right
The semi-final saw Australia bat first and post a massive total of 338, which appeared both unfathomable and unscalable for India. However, the Women in Blue showed incredible grit to pull off one of the most remarkable chases in women’s ODI history.
India’s innings began poorly, with Shafali Verma, replacing Pratika Rawal, dismissed in the second over. Star opener Smriti Mandhana also fell early and was sent back by Kim Garth in the 10th over.
Rodrigues, however, stood firm and played a sensational knock of 127 off 134 balls, guiding India to victory. Admittedly, luck favoured her during the innings as she was dropped several times and survived four chances.
Yet, Jemimah Rodrigues' composure and determination overshadowed those moments, as she single-handedly steered India home, proving Nasser Hussain’s prediction right on October 31, 2025.
