'Najam Sethi & Zaka Ashraf Should Rest, Count God Beads': Shahid Afridi Hits Below The Belt

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) continues to be a political hot-pot, given the number of changes in leadership it has witnessed since the Asia Cup 2022. PCB will soon be headed by former chairman Zaka Ashraf, who will be succeeding Najam Sethi. Sethi is leading PCB since December 2022, after former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raza was sacked from his post.

While Sethi withdrew his participation from the race to become the next PCB chief, Ashraf is a clear front-runner given his close ties with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is PCB's Patron-in-Chief.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi in his unrestrained style has urged authorities to pick a younger candidate and bring much-needed change into the system.

As per Cricket Pakistan, Afridi, who was head of PCB's interim selection committee during Sethi's recent stint also asked for the new regime to not interfere much until ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Here's what Afridi said:

"I would've rested both (Najam Sethi & Zaka Ashraf) of these senior citizens. I wouldn't have wanted anyone above 60 or 65 years to reclaim this seat. Both of them are now quite old. They need to go, rest and count God beads. The way I see it, we need young blood in this place, individuals who can bring in new ideas."

"I'd request whoever the new chairman is coming, please let World Cup happen, let things be the way they are at least till World Cup, and then do whatever you want because we are already short on time."

Meanwhile, Pakistan's next international assignment will be a two-Test series in Sri Lanka next month.
