Must give up captaincy in one format: Mohammad Azharuddin's advice to Babar Azam

Pakistan's all-format skipper Babar Azam is facing a lot of flak for his winless home season in Tests and ODIs against the visiting Australia, England, and New Zealand. Azam's batting, too, went down as the No.1 ICC Ranked ODI batter failed to guide his side past troubled times in Tests at home.

Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin believes that Azam is an excellent batter, however, he must give up on the captaincy in one format. Under Azam, Pakistan reached the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and Asia Cup 2022.

Speaking on former Pakistan player Basit Ali's YouTube channel, Azharuddin said that every team should now adopt different captains for three formats.

Here's what Azharuddin adviced

“Behtareen batsman hai (He is an excellent batter). He is consistent as well. Captaincy is an issue. He has led Pakistan really well so far. Now the time has come that every team should have a different captain for different formats. The pressure is immense. At some point, he will have to give up captaincy in one format,”

Azam has captained Pakistan in 105 international matches, winning 61, losing 34, drawing 4, tying one, and 5 ended in no results.
