On 18 August 2018, one of India's most remarkable Test players, Rishabh Pant, made his Test Debut for India against England at Nottingham in the third Test of the India Tour of England.

His debut, while not a meteoric rise, showcased his resilience. He scored 24 runs off 51 balls in the first innings and followed it up with just a single run in the second innings. But it was in the fifth and final test of the series that he truly shone, announcing his arrival with a century (114 off 146) in chase of 464.

Who could have predicted that Rishabh Pant, in his early twenties, would amass such a remarkable Test career?

It's as if Rishabh Pant, the Southpaw, never looked back, conjuring up a series of magical innings in the longest format of the game: 159* in Sydney 2019, 97 in Sydney 2021, 89* in Brisbane 2021, 100* in Cape Town 2022, 146 in Birmingham 2022, 93 in Mirpur 2022.

Rishabh Pant's Remarkable Test Career

From 33 Tests, Pant has amassed a total of 2271 runs, with eleven fifties and five centuries. It's almost as if he doesn't believe in single-digit scores in red-ball cricket. His highest score of 159* in Sydney back in 2019 is a testament to his skill and excellence as a Test player.

His last appearance for India donning the Whites was in 2022 against Bangladesh in Mirpur, where he smashed an unforgettable 93 off 104 balls. However, just a couple of days later, he met with an unfortunate accident that left him out of the cricketing set-up for over a year.

But his comeback, reminiscent of a lion's return to its territory, was nothing short of spectacular as he won the 2024 T20 World Cup. While he has yet to play a Test for India this year, it is expected that he will be likely to feature against Bangladesh in September.
