Perhaps the smartes buy of the ongoing Women's Premier League auction, Delhi Capitals have roped in Australian skipper, Meg Lanning for INR 1.10 crore.

When the auction dates were announced, it was widely expected that franchises will bid high for the Aussie skipper. A master tactician, Lanning is a multiple time World Champions, and will bring her expertise and tactical knowledge in the Delhi side.

They already have Jemimah Rodrigues in the lineup, so it'll be interesting to see if the Capitals go in with the veteran Lanning as the captain, or they go with an untested Rodrigues as the face of the franchise.

Lanning has also captained Australia to the Commonwealth Games glory in 2022, and took an indefinite break from the game, post the tournament. She returned during the Pakistan white-ball series, and is currently in South Africa for the T20 Women's World Cup.

At the international level, the 30-year-old has played 127 matches, scoring 3297 runs, and also has two centuries to her name.

Apart from Lanning, Delhi Capitals have also purchased the Indian sensation, Shafali Verma for INR 2 crore.
