Meet Kashmiri Cricket Prodigy Uzair Nabi Who Aspires to Emulate Virat Kohli

As the saying goes, when you have a burning passion, unwavering determination, and a clear vision, the universe conspires to aid you in achieving your dreams.

This holds true for 13-year-old Uzair Nabi from Tarhama Kunzer in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, who aspires to emulate cricketing superstars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. 

Belonging to a less fortunate family, Uzair's dream of playing cricket seemed challenging due to the lack of resources. Undaunted, he carried his bat and other gear to the ground with his own hands. 

Later, he resorted to using a makeshift gunny bag to carry his cricketing essentials, the picture of which caught the attention of social media users who were moved by the unwavering determination and passion displayed by the 13-year-old.  

Reacting to his picture going viral on social media, here’s what Uzair said:

 "I used to carry cricket equipment in my hand earlier. Later on, I took a gunny bag and crafted a cricket bag out of it. I never knew my picture would go viral and receive so much fame.”

"It wasn't easy. Watching other teammates with sophisticated cricket kit bags used to hurt me a lot, but I am aware of my family's financial status.” 

Upon recognising Uzair's potential and passion for the sport, his family reached out to the district administration and the LG administration for support. The district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Syed Sehrish Asgar, who looked deeply moved with Uzair, gifted the young cricketer a brand-new cricket kit. 

Overwhelmed by gratitude, Uzair said:

"I am incredibly thankful to the district administration, especially to DC Baramulla Syed Sehrish Asgar, for their invaluable support. This gift means the world to me and has boosted my confidence to pursue my dreams with even greater enthusiasm.”  

The inspiring journey of Uzair, from carrying cricket equipment in his hands to using gunny bags and eventually receiving a brand-new cricket kit, exemplifies the power of passion and determination. 

It serves as a testament that when you strive for something within the community, the world, and the universe conspire to support you. The key is to keep the flame of determination alive within.
