South African all-rounder Matthew Montgomery has been roped in by Nottinghamshire on a three-year contract which will prolong his stay with the club until the end of 2025.

The Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club on Friday (September 30) confirmed the signing of Montgomery for the next three years. Montgomery has been a regular feature with the club for the past two seasons. Impressed with his progress as a player the club has decided to give him a contract extension.

The right-handed batter slammed his maiden first-class hundred for Nottinghamshire in an innings which set the foundation for a crucial clash against Durham. Having replaced Ben Duckett in the side after the left-hander received an England white-ball call-up, the top-order batter reached the landmark off 198 deliveries and hit 14 fours on his way to an unbeaten ton.

The South Africa-born batter’s hundred was backed up by a century from Haseeb Hameed, who reached the milestone for the fourth time this season, with the pair notching a partnership worth 180 before Hameed was dismissed.

In addition to that, he has scored 511 runs, including four half-centuries, and taken five wickets in 17 Royal London One-day cup appearances in the last two seasons.

Commenting on his well deserved contract extension, Montgomery said:

"It's been a great honour to have had the opportunity to play at Trent Bridge, and to extend my stay here is really pleasing. I still have a lot more to give and improvements to make to my game, and I know that the best place for me to continue my development as a player is at Nottinghamshire."

Nottinghamshire Head coach, Peter Moores said:

"What has stood out for everyone watching on, is how Matt has handled himself since getting into the first team. This winter gives him another opportunity to move his game forward to be ready for 2023."
