Invited to bat first, the Giants were off to a flyer with their charismatic openers, Lendl Simmons and Chris Gayle. The duo added 40 runs before Simmons was dismissed for 22 off 18 balls.

Yusuf Pathan took important wickets of Parthiv Patel (1) and Kevin O'Brien (4) in quick succession, and they were 51/3 at the end of six overs. However, Gayle stamped his authority to unleash his best against a quality attack.

Shane Watson put an end to Chris Gayle's entertaining knock of 68 off 40 balls, laced with nine fours and three sixes. Then, Yashpal Singh was terrific hitting 58 off 37, which helped Giants to post 186 on the board.

Collective batting effort help Kings to prevail

In response to the chase, Kings started on a positive note with William Porterfield taking charge of a flourish. Soon, Morne Van Wyk brought his A-game to drive the team as well. In the last ball of the sixth over,  Wyk was dismissed and Kings were at 57/1 in six overs.

Soon, Porterfield made his way back to the hut for a well-compiled 40 off 37 balls. The quality spinner Graeme Swann took key wickets of Shane Watson (1) and Nick Compton (3) to put Kings to a backfoot.

However, Yusuf was sensational with his knock of 39 off 18 balls, which put Kings back on track. Afterwards, the quickfire innings from Jesal Karia (39* off 24) and skipper Irfan Pathan (26* off 14) paved way for Kings to win the game by five wickets.
