Australian paceman Josh Hazlewood opines that bowlers will have a bigger role to play in the game during the upcoming T20 World Cup as the Australian pitches will support their cause.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will be staged in Australia this year with the defending champions Australia looking to reclaim their crown in their home conditions. Despite losing the recently concluded three-match T20I series against India, it is safe to say that the home side is one of the top contenders to clinch the coveted trophy as they have a balanced squad in their Arsenal.

It is expected that this year's World Cup will witness an even contest between bat and ball as conditions in Australia are expected to offer something to everyone.

Speaking in the build-up of the mega event, Hazlewood said that big outfields and pitches offering more pace and bounce, will help the bowlers in the World Cup starting next month.

"Think T20 in Australia, it's probably a little bit better for the bowlers in a lot of regards. The outfields are bigger, the wickets have a bit more pace, [you can] use those boundaries to your advantage, depending where you are playing on the squad sometimes there are short and long boundaries,"

Hazlewood was part of the team which lost the hard-fought series against India. Although the visitors couldn't win the series, Hazlewood noted down the positives from three T20Is in India against the top-ranked T20I side.

“It was a great test to see where we’re at. A number of guys got to bowl the end against probably the best hitters in the game on the fattest wickets and smallest boundaries. There’s always stuff to work on – what fields you want at certain times, what balls you’re bowling, how you’re sequencing it,"
