When Bangladesh faced Afghanistan in the first T20I at Dhaka on March 3, 2022, everyone looked out for Bangladesh's batting. They were set to face Afghanistan's world-class spin pair of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, but Litton Das rose to the challenge with a brilliant knock that changed the game.
Opening the innings, Litton began the innings with a positive approach. While his partner Mohammad Naim fell cheaply on 2 off 5 balls, Litton looked in complete control.
When Litton Das '60 Set Up A Crushing Win
Litton Das played Rashid Khan with confidence, using his feet smartly and rotating strike whenever possible. Against the pacers, he was aggressive, striking clean boundaries to put pressure back on Afghanistan.
Das’ innings of 60 runs off 44 balls included 4 crisp fours and 2 effortless sixes. What was impressive was how he paced his innings. Rather than attempting rash shots, he constructed his innings pragmatically, targeting the right bowlers.
Even when wickets fell around him, including Shakib Al Hasan (5) and captain Mahmudullah (10), Litton stood firm. His fifty was a crucial one because it gave Bangladesh a strong platform at the halfway mark.
By the time Litton Das was dismissed in the 17th over, Bangladesh had already crossed 120 and were eyeing a competitive total. Thanks to his innings and late cameos from Afif Hossain (25) and the lower order, Bangladesh finished on 155/8.
Nasum Ahmed’s Spell Destroyed Afghanistan’s Chase
In reply, Afghanistan crumbled under pressure, bowled out for just 94. Nasum Ahmed stole the show with the ball, picking up a four-wicket-haul in 4 overs while conceding just 10 runs. Shoriful Islam also picked up 3 wickets, while Shakib contributed with 2 dismissals.
Overall, Litton Das’ innings was the backbone of Bangladesh’s victory. Without his innings, the home side could have struggled to even reach 130, and the game could have gone very differently.
