Australian Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins has decided to pull out of the upcoming 2023 edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL). Cummins was brought by the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise back in 2020 and even led them in the same season.

Taking to Twitter, Cummins announced his decision, which was due to Australia's jam-packed schedule, which includes The Ashes series in England, and a 50-overs World Cup in India.

The former KKR captain thanked the KKR owners and team management and looked forward to playing at Eden Gardens in the future. Overall, in 26 IPL matches for KKR, the 29-year-old has picked up 28 wickets.

England's wicket-keeper batter Sam Billings also withdrew from the 16th edition of the IPL on Monday. Billings also plays for KKR and wants to focus on red-ball cricket this summer in England.

"I've made the difficult decision to miss next year's IPL. The international schedule is packed with Tests and ODI's for the next 12 months, so will take some rest ahead of an Ashes series and World Cup.

Thanks so much to @KKRiders for their understanding. Such a terrific team of players and staff and I hope I can get back there ASAP 💜💜"

Cummins will seen in action against England, in a three-match series commencing November 17.
