After an enticing T20 World Cup 2022 final, match 45 of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) produced a nerve-wrenching last-ball thriller between the Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers.

The rain-truncated match saw the Heat edge past the Strikers by two runs, thanks to an all-round show from New Zealand's Amelia Kerr, who scored 32 runs and picked up three wickets for her side.

This win puts Brisbane (16) within touching distance of WBBL 08 table toppers Sydney Sixers, who have 17 points, while Adelaide (13) remain at fifth spot.

Opting to bat first, the Strikers lost three quick wickets in the first powerplay with 30-odd runs on the board. Kerr managed to hold the fort for her side and found support in Charli Knott and Laura Harris.

Rain interrupted play and ensured the game got reduced to a 16-side match. Megan Schutt did most of the damage, picking up three wickets, including Kerr's scalp, who fell for 32.

Skipper Jess Jonassen scored 15 runs, taking her side to 114 for 6 in 16 overs.

Chasing 118 (DLS), the Strikers were off to a solid start courtesy Laura Wolvaardt. Kerr and Nicola Hancock, however, had other plans. Both rocked Adelaide's middle order, claiming four wickets between them.

Wolvaardt found support in Megan Schutt, who came in to bat, with her side needing 49 off 24. Hancock claimed Wolvaardt's wicket and brought her side into the game.

With 10 to defend in the final over, Darcie Brown held her nerve and gave just 7 runs, as Schutt watched her side lose the match, remaining unbeaten on 18.
