IPL 2023 | "Classic case of ..." : Former Rajasthan Royals Coach Hits Out At Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals (RR), playing their first match in Jaipur in four years, lost to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 10 runs on Wednesday evening, despite chasing 155. Despite a strong start, the star-studded lineup failed to carry on momentum on a sluggish track where tight bowling and a brilliant Avesh Khan final over handed the Royals their second defeat of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler added 87 runs for the first wicket, however, quick wickets later, Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer. Samson, who got run out for 2, found criticism from former RR batting coach and Ranji legend Amol Muzumdar for the wicketkeeper's and team's approach.

As per the Hindustan Times, Muzumdar stated that the Royals lack a batter who can adapt to game situations, which was one of the major reasons behind their loss to RR.

Samson, so far in IPL 2023 has scored 159 runs, which includes two fifties and as many ducks.

Here's what Muzumdar said

"There's something called muscle memory. Somebody like Sanju Samson is a classic case of see-the-ball, hit-the-ball. He's not worried about consequences. (He's) being as brave as possible, daring to score those boundaries and sixes.

These are modern-day cricketers, Sanju, Yashasvi Jaiswal, even Devdutt Padikkal to an extent. They don't have the kind of player who could adapt and play the different role on this kind of surface, where Tom (Moody) rightly said that you need to hit those pockets,"

The 48-year-old further stated that batters will have to find singles and doubles at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, where there are large gaps.

Rajasthan travels to Bangalore to face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday.
