Shubman Gill smoked an unbeaten 104 against RCB in the final league game of the ongoing IPL 2023 season. In doing so, the cricketer registered his second IPL century, with both coming in successive innings as he inched closer to current ‘Orange Cap’ holder Faf du Plessis, with 680 runs.

Gill’s innings also knocked RCB out of the competition as the Gujarat Titans made it to their second successive playoffs with a table-topping league campaign.

Brett Lee lauds Shubman Gill’s wrists and timing

Cricketer-turned-commentator Brett Lee seems to be mighty impressed with Shubman Gill’s hitting prowess. The former Australian speedster, who is currently serving as one of the experts on JioCinema for IPL matches, praised Gill for finding the power to hit effortless sixes with his “strong wrists” and “beautiful timing.” He said:

“He hit eight sixes. I love how he goes on the leg side. He finds power. That he can do and access because he’s got strong wrists and he’s got beautiful timing.”

The 23-year-old youngster formed a 123-run second wicket stand with Vijay Shankar, who himself scored a cracking 35-ball 53. The Australian legend praised the duo for their match-winning partnership, which he believes was the one that “broke RCB’s back” in the second innings of the contest.

“123 off 71 balls, that was the partnership that broke the back of the RCB bowlers. Yes, it was a wet ball, conditions didn’t really favour the bowlers but you got to give credit where credit is due. They both batted beautifully tonight.”

Gujarat Titans will now face the Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier on May 23. The match will be played out at the latter’s home ground, i.e., the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
