Lungi Ngidi has etched his name into history books by becoming the second-fastest South African player to reach the landmark of 50 T20I wickets.

Ngidi achieved this feat in the final game of the three-match T20I series against India on Tuesday (October 4) at Indore.

Batting first, South Africa posted a total of 227 on the board, on the back of Rilee Rossouw (100*) and Quinton de Kock (68). In response, India were off to a dismal start with the dismissals of Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer. However, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik were successful to resurrect the team's innings and make full use of the fielding restrictions.

In the fifth over of the innings, Ngidi took an important wicket of Pant (27), which put the hosts under pressure. Then, he managed to send back Harshal Patel (17) back to the hut as well. In the end, Proteas won the game by 49 runs.

Adding two wickets to his tally, Ngidi now has 51 wickets in 32 T20Is, with best figures of 5/39. The fastest to 50 wickets in the shortest format for Proteas was Imran Tahir (31 matches), while Dale Steyn (35 matches) marks his presence in the number three position.

Ngidi's will now be seen in the ODI series against the Men in Blue starting October 6 at Lucknow.
