Harbhajan Singh Changes Role But Stays The Undisputed Hero

The rivalries come and go, very few leave a mark like the India-Pakistan’s. Whether in the ICC stage or any bilateral series, the thrills grew with time, making it more intense. Among them, Harbhajan Singh’s heroics in the 2010 Asia Cup stand out. Known for his bowling mastery, Harbhajan proved that heroism can take any form when it comes to raising the nation’s flag high.

In the fourth clash of the Asia Cup 2010, Team India faced Pakistan and faced some early blows as the Pakistani batters started their first innings on high. Depending on Salman Butt’s outstanding 74 and Kamran Akmal’s impressive 51, the Men in Green put on a challenging total of 267 runs on the board.

While chasing down the total, India faced an early blow as Virat Kohli and Virender Sehwag walked away early. Tightening grips, MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir stitched a massive 98-run partnership before Gambhir walked away scoring 83 runs. But the drama ignited when Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja walked away consecutively.

Reeling in 219-6, Suresh Raina paired up with Harbhajan Singh as the duo aimed to finish the game early on. But the match took a dramatic turn as Mohammad Amir and Shoaib Akhtar bowled some tight overs. That moment ignited drama in the high-voltage encounter.

With the Indian batter seemed unmovable from the crease, Pakistan needed to defend only  seven runs in the final over. From the stands, it seemed simple, but on the pitch, the tension was blazing.

Adding more layers, Raina walked away on a dramatic runout, leaving the team needing six more runs in the final four balls. Harbhajan Singh stepped up, carrying the hopes of a billion fans on his shoulders, and he didn’t let them down. Facing Amir in the penultimate over, he unleashed a towering six  on the second last ball to seal a sensational victory.

As the Indian dressing room erupted in Dambulla, the entire nation joined in celebration, hailing Harbhajan Singh’s heroics. That marked an unforgettable chapter of the rivalry.
