IND vs AUS | Cannot Believe Virat Kohli Has Gone That Long Without A Hundred: Mark Waugh

Virat Kohli's lack of runs in the middle order for India in Test cricket has been worrying since 2019 when the star batter slammed his last red-ball ton. A crucial cog in India's dominance with the bat, Kohli has managed just 111 runs in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, which in many ways doesn't justify his class.

Former Australian player Mark Waugh, who is in India for a commentary stint, said that Kohli's lack of big scores was unbelievable for him.

Kohli has lately become susceptible to spinners. So far, in the BGT former India batter has fallen three times to Todd Murphy and twice to Matthew Kuhnemann, despite looking comfortable in the middle.

Speaking to FOX Sports, Waugh stated that Kohli has looked good, however, an odd mistake coupled with a lack of luck has been his downfall.

Here's what Waugh said

"I cannot believe a player of his class has gone that long without a hundred. He’s been in good touch recently, he’s batted well in one-day cricket. I know it’s not Test match cricket, but the signs have been there in his last three innings in Test cricket that he’s actually playing pretty well.

He’s middling the ball, he’s watching the ball well, and his defence is strong. He’s just making the odd error and it’s proving costly for him. He hasn’t had a lot of luck. He makes one mistake and he’s out."

Waugh further explained that Kohli gets tense in the middle, a view that former Australia wicket-keeper Brad Haddin also seconded.
