In a shocking turn of events, an assassination was attempted on the former Pakistan captain and Prime minister Imran Khan on Thursday. The World Cup-winning skipper was shot twice in his leg during a rally, which has led to political chaos in the country.

The incident has also concerned the England players, who will tour the South Asian nation to play a three-match Test series against the hosts, starting on December 1.

Mark Wood has become the first Englishman to express his apprehension regarding the matter. Although he praised the PCB for their treatment during the white-ball leg, Wood admitted to being worried about touring the country during the troublesome situation.

Here's what Wood stated

"It’s obviously hugely sad news to hear that as a group. From the security we had on the recent T20 tour, I can only mention what we came across and it was fantastic. We were looked after really well, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried by that because you’re going back there when there’s been trouble,

“It’ll be for people above me to decide whatever happens. But obviously it’s worrying when you’re going back there as a cricketer and there’s unrest in the country."

England's first tour to Pakistan in 17 years holds paramount geopolitical and economic importance for the latter. However, the prevailing unrest might see the Three Lions opting out of the tour like New Zealand did last year.
