Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest cricketer to ever play the game, bewailed as he missed the inauguration of a stand named after him at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

On the occasion of Tendulkar's 50th birthday, CEO of the Sharjah Stadium, Khalaf Bukhatir renamed the West Stand of the Sharjah Cricket Stadium as the 'Sachin Tendulkar Stand.'

Also, this honour for Tendulkar concurred with the 25th anniversary of his historic 143-run knock, dubbed as the 'Desert Storm' as his innings came on either side of a brief sandstorm at Sharjah in the 1998 Coca-Cola Cup against Australia.

As the legendary batter could not attend the event in person, he expressed his disappointment about that. He also looked back the wonderful memories Sharjah has given him.

"I wish I was there but unfortunately I had prior commitments. him. Playing in Sharjah has always been a magnificent experience. From the electrifying atmosphere to the love, affection, and support, Sharjah has been a special venue for Indian cricket fans and lovers of the game from around the globe," Tendulkar said as quoted by India Today.

"A big thank you to Bukhatir and his team for this kind gesture on the 25th anniversary of the Desert Storm match and my 50th birthday. Feels like the greatest 6 of them all," he added.

Seven of Tendulkar's 100 centuries have come in Sharjah and it is his highest at any venue.
