Purple Cap in the IPL has emerged as one of the most reputed and sought after awards over the years. It is an award for being the leading wicket-taker of a particular season and winning it has always been a challenge with truckloads of world-class cricketers plying their trade in IPL. Some of the biggest names in the history of cricket have fought some intense battle over the years to win that coveted Purple Cap and that in turn has produced some memorable spells, making IPL the best T20 tournament in the world.

Yuzvendra Chahal won the Purple Cap in the 2022 season with 27 wickets in 17 matches and let us now see who are leading the Purple Cap race halfway into the 2023 season.

Purple Cap IPL 2023

Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan has been one of the most successful overseas cricketer in the history of the IPL. He made his name initially playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad but now is the pillar of Gujarat Titans unit. He played a big role in GT's victorious campaign last year and has been brilliant too in IPL 2023 so far.

Rashid Khan has picked 14 wickets in 7 matches at an average of 16.14 which includes a hat-trick against KKR. We are just halfway through the season and expect Rashid Khan to deliver more impact performances.

Mohammed Siraj

Siraj has been RCB's go-to bowler this season. He has bowled with great intensity and has been lethal in the Powerplay especially. He has picked 13 wickets in 7 games at an average of 15.38 and is one of RCB's biggest asset. The fact that he has played most of the games at a high-scoring ground like M. Chinnaswamy makes it even more special.

Arshdeep Singh

The young left-armer is growing from strength to strength with each passing year. His death bowling is one of the best in Indian cricket and IPL currently and he showed that with a stellar display against MI at the Wankhede Stadium. He has also picked 13 wickets in 7 games at an average of 15.69 and Punjab will hope that he continues to excel in coming games.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzi is a genuine wicket-taker and he is showing that again in IPL 2023 after leading the charts in the 2022 season. He can bowl in any phase of the innings unlike many other spinners and that makes a special asset for RR. He has picked 12 wickets so far in 7 games and would be looking to move up the ladder in the next half of IPL 2023.

Tushar Deshpande

He is a surprise addition for many in this list. He started the season as an Impact Player but has grown leaps and bounds under the leadership of MS Dhoni. He has 12 wickets in 7 games and has got some crucial breakthroughs for his side along the way. He needs to work on his economy though  but he tends to bowl the difficult overs for his team and has done a commendable job.

This is the list of top-5 leading wicket-takers halfway through the IPL 2023. There are plenty of quality names behind these five bowlers and let's see how things pan out in the second half of IPL 2023.
