Glenn Maxwell details painful leg injury which could end hopes of Test recall

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed the extensive details of his horrific leg injury which could potentially end hopes of his Test recall.

Maxwell was at his friend's birthday party in Melbourne, when he slipped on some synthetic grass and was left with excruciating pain before being rushed to the hospital.

Speaking to cricket.com.au's Unplayable Podcast, Maxwell reveals the detail on how he broke his left fibula.

The horrific detail

"One of the mates, who was also my school teachers, we were laughing about something and I pretended to chase him off somewhere. I reckon we both took three or four steps out there , and both slipped at the same time. My foot got stuck a little bit, and he fell, unfortunately at a very bad angle and he landed straight on my leg," Maxwell said.

He added: "It just snapped. I heard and felt every part of it. It was pretty painful. I was screaming in pain and he was like 'please tell me you are joking'."

"I probably didn't sleep for two or three days, while I was in agony. I shattered my fibula, it was snapped in half and also shattered through the bones. There was a bit of a chip off the tibia as well and I ruptured all my ligaments on top of my foot as well. There's still time for the squad to be announced for India series, but there is a high chance that I won't make it."

Despite the latest setback, Maxwell is not giving up on the hope of returning next year in time to feature in the Australian squad for the Border-Gavaskar series in India.
