In a significant turn of events, English club Essex has bagged the services of famed Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams for the T20 Blast 2023.

Sams, who was influential for the club in 2022, sees his contract being extended for one more year.

Essex head coach Anthony McGrath welcomed the player gleefully, highlighting his vital contributions for the club last season.

He also heaped praise on the left-armer for his consistency in T20 tournaments across the globe.

"We’re really pleased to have Daniel re-sign for the Club ahead of the upcoming Vitality Blast. He played a big part in our campaign last time out both on and off the pitch and we’re excited to welcome him back. He has been one of the most consistent players in T20 cricket around the world over the last few years with bat and ball, so we're thrilled to see him return."

Sams indeed played a crucial role for Essex in the T20 Blast 2022, amassing 165 runs and scalping 14 wickets across 12 appearances.

Despite blowing hot and cold with the bat, the 30-year-old did a commendable job with the ball for Sydney Thunder in the recently concluded Big Bash League, picking 18 wickets at an impressive strike rate of 15.2.

Considering his potential and experience in the shortest format, we expect Sams to play a key role for Essex in the Vitality Blast this season.
