Yuzvendra Chahal in action in Asia Cup 2022 [Source: Twitter]
Indian T20I cricket in 2022, was not at its best, failing to win the Asia Cup 2022, or the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. One of the main reasons for failures in both competitions was India's inability to claim wickets.
Dinesh Karthik, who made a remarkable comeback into the national T20 side following a terrific IPL 2022, has now admitted that playing leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the T20 World Cup 2022 Down Under could have had more impact.
Despite being in the squad, the team management, led by coach Rahul Dravid, fielded Ravichandran Ashwin over the wily spinner, who sadly could not play a single game.
India were knocked out of the semi-finals, where England tore apart the Indian bowling attack sans Chahal, something that critics and fans slammed the team for.
Speaking to NDTV, Karthik said that Chahal could have been an interesting choice to look at in hindsight.
"These are all calls that are taken by the captain and coach with the belief they had in a certain player. To be fair, Ravichandran Ashwin started the tournament well but probably didn't end well. But Chahal would've definitely made a lot more damage, it could've been an interesting choice. But hindsight is a very interesting thing to look at once the results come out.”
India's second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is, Chahal will be in action against Sri Lanka in the three-match series starting January 3.
