Indian cricket has seen a seismic shift in the past week with two of their biggest stars, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announcing retirement from Test cricket in a span of just five days. Rohit Sharma who was captaining the Indian team during the last Australian tour, announced his decision to hang up the whites on 7th May, 2025. After five days on 12th, Kohli also walked the same path.

Notably, the decisions came at a time when the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League was suspended due to the rising border tensions between India and Pakistan. With things cooling down a bit, the IPL is scheduled to restart from 17th May, 2025. 

Recently, Kohli was spotted at the Mumbai airport with his wife, Anushka Sharma. As the Indian star was walking out of the airport, a fan was heard seen expressing his emotions on the retirement of the player. The fan was heard saying - 'Apne Galat kiya, retirement kyu lia? Main cricket hi nahi dekhunga ab. Test cricket ap ke lie hi dekhta tha main'.

Rohit And Virat Announce Test And T20 Retirement Together

Notably, this is the second format of the game, where Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have announced their retirements very close to each other. After India won the T20 World Cup 2025, Virat Kohli declared that the final was his last game in the format. Rohit Sharma soon followed suit and announced his retirement from the format too. 

In case of the Test matches, it was the other way around. While Rohit Sharma walked from the first Kohli followed suit. With both Rohit and Kohli gone from the hardest format of the game, it is now time for the next generation of the
