Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper, KL Rahul, proved his worth as a batter against Punjab Kings on Saturday, despite his team's bitter two-wicket defeat. During the post-match press conference, LSG’s fielding coach, Jonty Rhodes, spoke highly of Rahul's captaincy skills, highlighting his ability to lead from the front. He also dismissed any suggestion that captaincy is affecting the LSG captain’s batting form.

After losing the toss, LSG were asked to bat first at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. But that didn't deter Rahul from scoring an impressive 74 off 56 balls. His knock included eight fours and a six, before he was caught out by Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer.

Unfortunately, his knock went in vain, as Lucknow Super Giants could only manage to put up 159/8 on the scoreboard. Punjab Kings chased down the target with ease, with two wickets in hand.

At the post-match press conference, Jonty Rhodes, commended Rahul's unwavering spirit, insisting that the captaincy has not impacted his batting form. Unlike many great batters who struggle with the added responsibility, Rahul has always been a successful and dominating batter in all IPLs, according to Rhodes.

“The captain is someone who likes to lead from the front. He has always been a successful, dominating batter in all the IPLs. Captaincy isn’t something that’s ever plagued him. Many great batters when given captaincy don’t quite handle it. He’s led from the front and I think it’s great to see that,” said Rhodes.

Looking ahead, Rahul’s men will look to turn their fortunes around as they prepare to lock horns with the Rajasthan Royals on April 19 in Jaipur.
