Sam Curran led Punjab Kings in their away fixture against the Lucknow Super Kings in Lucknow. The all-rounder was appointed as interim captain after regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan was benched due to a shoulder injury.

The Englishman did well on his leadership debut, as he guided Punjab Kings to a thrilling win over the KL Rahul-led side. Curran snared a three-fer with the ball before Sikandar Raza played anchor and Shahrukh Khan aced the finishers’ role in the run-chase.

Sam Curran hails Raza and ‘dangerous’ Shahrukh Khan

Sam Curran claimed best bowling figures on captaincy debut in IPL history, as his 3-31 sunk the LSG batters after they looked settled for a much bigger score. The speedster was assisted by Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh, who were also among the wickets column.

Team spinners Harpreet Brar and Sikandar Raza also claimed a wicket each, before the latter of the two top-scored in the run-chase with a calculated 57.

Punjab Kings interim captain Sam Curran hailed his bowlers for restricting the Super Giants to a modest total, and also showered high praise for Zimbabwean import Raza. He said:

“Amazing win. I thought our spinners bowled nicely. KG does what he does. Bit of dew came in but the wicket was offering a little for the bowlers. The way Sikandar Raza played was brilliant,”

The Englishman also spoke about Shahrukh Khan in high regards, as his 10-ball 23* thumped the LSG bowlers in the death overs. The cricketer further spoke about team’s gameplans and hoped for the speedy recovery of regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan.

“And the way Shahrukh finished it, that's what he's in our team to do. His role has been clear in our side. Players who can hit sixes from ball one are dangerous. You go from ground to ground - different dimensions - have to come up with different gameplans. We've got so many options which is lovely to have as a captain. I've never done it before. Hopefully Shikhar is fit soon.”

The Punjab Kings will now face the RCB in a home game on April 20. The contest marks the sixth fixture for both sides this tournament.
