Mukesh Kumar is a hardworking cricketer who, despite adversities has managed to put up a string of impressive performances that has earned him a call up to the India's ODI squad to face South Africa. He is currently playing for the Rest Of India side in the ongoing Irani Cup, during which he came to know about his selection.

The 28 year old has taken 113 wickets in 31 first class matches and has taken 17 wickets in 18 List A games with an economy rate of 5.17. Mukesh Kumar also belongs to the rare breed of cricketers selected for the national side without playing in the IPL.

His first five wicket haul for India A in the first unofficial test against New Zealand and his four for in the ongoing Irani Cup against Saurashtra only justifies his selection into the Indian team.

I got very emotional: Kumar on his selection

The seamer from Bengal wasn't aware of his selection until he was added to the Indian team's official Whatsapp group. Speaking to PTI, he said he could only remember his late father following his selection. Kumar stated that till the time he played for Bengal, his father didn't think he was good enough to do well professionally and had doubts over his capabilities.

Talking about his mom's reaction, he said:

"Today, my mom had tears in her eyes, She was so emotional. Everyone at home started crying."

Mukesh further added that till the time he plays cricket, the learning should never stop. he also remembered the advice given to him by VVS Laxman. Laxman advised the young seamer to replicate whatever he does for Bengal, hitting consistent lengths and setting up batters.
